AbstractAn adaptive equalizer, based on a minimum mean square error criterion, has been derived for the purpose of extracting PSK signals transmitted through an unknown and asymmetric channel. The weights of the equalizer are obtained by using a simple formula containing the transform of the parallel channels. The performance of the equalizer is expressed in terms of the variance of the estimation error. The error is shown to be much less than that of the direct demodulated data.
