AbstractThree basic discrete estimators, each of increasing complexity, are presented for extracting a random signal sequence from one which has been distorted by an additive white noise sequence. Closed form solutions are obtained by minimizing the mean square error, convergence properties are indicated and comparisons made. Several examples are given to indicate what typically can be expected in each case.
