ABOUT THE COLLECTION

The Ruptured Duck was the newspaper of the Tucson Chapter of the American Veterans Committee (AVC), a liberal veteran’s organization and alternative other veteran organizations such as the American Legion. The term “Ruptured Duck” refers to veterans who were honorably discharged from the Armed Services during World War II.
The Ruptured Duck was published from 1947-1948 and its editorial board was composed of notable Arizona veterans, Stewart L. Udall, Morris K. Udall, Alejandro Roces, and Dick Greer. Articles were contributed by members of the Tucson Chapter of the AVC and University of Arizona Journalism Faculty member Douglas Martin. Article topics included progressive issues such as civil rights, equal pay at the university, city and state levels.
